ROMANIAN ELECTRIC VEHICLE ASSOCIATION
CALEA VICTORIEI 224-AP.38, 010099-BUCUREŠTI
ICPE is specialized in the design and fabrication of the DC and AC motors and drives, special electric machines (alternators, torque motors, tachogenerators, resolvers, synchros, RVDT and many others). There are also competences in digital control (microcomputers, microcontrollers, DSP etc), traffic management, power supplies and converters. ICPE has also started other projects with the final goal of offering a competitive electric vehicle, including the fuel cell integration, in partnership with a Research Group from Canada. Now, the association is able to offer high performance brushless drives for electric vehicles.
Possible users of our electric propulsion systems are:
- the worldwide enterprises producing electrical and hybrid vehicles (a cooperation with an Italian producer has already started)
- the scientific research units from institutes and universities (to which the solution is offered for the execution of an optimal control of the electrical vehicles within the projects which they are promoting)
- the transport operators from the areas where the promotion of an ecological transport system is planned
- local authorities interested in the development of the non-polluting and efficient transport systems
Until now, we have had in mind the punctual approach of some issues specific to the electrical vehicle execution and, with this in view, there have been identified more action directions that shall be taken into consideration. In the field of the drive systems, the things are advanced, the existing motors and drive systems manufactured by ICPE, with competitive performances, their integration in a highly efficient electrical vehicle, in which their technical characteristics should be capitalized, implying the design of a light body, especially designed for this application.
The following directives will be approached:
- The execution of a highly efficient light electrical vehicle product designed for the city traffic by capitalizing the results obtained by the consortium members in the field of the DC and brushless motor drives
- Finding the best solution for the energy source both on short-term by using the traction batteries and the fuel cells or the power renewable sources; it is obvious that the scientific research shall anticipate the future in order to prepare the moment when the fuel cells become series manufactured products, at a price compatible with the proposed application
- Identifying and finding some solutions related to the issues generated by the development of an infrastructure for the use of the electrical vehicles in the traffic (number of charging stations, location, technical characteristics)
- Specific issues raised by the traffic homologation of the connected, electrical vehicles and the possible legislative amendments imposed by their integration
- Changing the mentality at the level of the local and governmental authorities, as well as of the individual users in order to support the measures with a view to promoting the electrical vehicles
- Identifying some solutions for the promotion of an electrical vehicle transport system
Propulsion Systems for Electric Vehicles
The design of the modern propulsion system for the electric vehicles shall include the present technologies of the motor vehicle engineering, as well as of the electric, electronic and chemical engineering. It has to adopt an outlook specific to the EV and develop manufacturing techniques adequate for these new vehicles. When designing an electrical vehicle, the following shall be taken into consideration:
- Establishing the technical specifications, the drive cycle included
- Establishing the necessary infrastructure, also including the battery recycling or fuel cell supplying system
- Establishing the energy source - generation or storage, unique or hybrid
- Technological preparing of the conditions for the fuel cell use
- Establishing the drive system - the motor, the power converter and the type of mechanical transmission if there is used one motor or more, if there is used or not a gearbox and the way in which the elements are displaced
- Establishing the specifications for the electric drive (power, torque, speed) and for the energy source (capacity, voltage, current) in accordance with the various cycles of the possible drive
- Adopting an intelligent power management system
- Improving the drive efficiency in accordance with the drive profile and the operating conditions
- Improving the whole system by using the digital simulation techniques
